Nyack Hospital Offers Childbirth and Infant Education Classes


The Maternity Center at Nyack Hospital offers classes on Lamaze, breastfeeding, infant care, and more for expectant parents and caregivers.
 

The Maternity Center at Nyack Hospital in Rockland County offers monthly childbirth and infant education classes for expectant parents and caregivers at the Hospital’s Mother/Baby Unit. Classes include Lamaze, breastfeeding basics, and infant care and nutrition.

A few of the classes offered are:

Traditional Lamaze
This six-week, two-hour course is designed to prepare parents for labor and delivery as well as what to expect during the hospital stay and at home. The traditional Lamaze classes are held on Mondays, from Feb. 27 to April 3, and take place from 7-9pm. 

Accelerated Weekend Lamaze
This traditional Lamaze class is condensed into a two session, 12-hour program throughout one weekend. The accelerated weekend Lamaze class is held on the weekend of March 18-19, from 9am-3pm.

Infant Care and Nutrition
This 2½-hour class teaches the basics of holding, diapering, bathing, and swaddling, and addresses infant sleeping patterns and feeding cues. The infant care and nutrition class takes place on Wednesday, March 15 from 6:30-9:00pm.

Breastfeeding Basics
This class prepares new mothers for the first few days and weeks of breastfeeding by discussing positioning, milk supply, and common issues, such as pumping, waking techniques, and returning to work. The breastfeeding basics class will occur on Thursday, March 25, from 7-9pm.

Tours of The Maternity Center at Nyack Hospital are offered weekly on Wednesday evenings at 8pm and Sunday afternoons at 12pm. Call 845-348-2660 the day of to confirm the tour. Nyack Hospital is a licensed 375-bed community acute care medical and surgical hospital located in Nyack, within Rockland County. The hospital was founded in 1895 and is affiliated with Montefiore Health System.
