Your Family Will Love Brickworld’s Virtual LEGO Expo

Your Family Will Love Brickworld’s Virtual LEGO Expo

The Chicago-based Brickworld LEGO Expo is coming to your living room later this month.

Though your dreams of celebrating July 4 at LEGOLAND New York Resort were postponed, you can still celebrate Independence Week with other LEGO-lovers across the country during Brickworld's LEGO Fireworks Virtual Con on Saturday, June 27 from 11am-5pm Central—or 12-6pm Eastern. Normally, Brickworld holds an expo in Chicago and the Midwest, but this year (due to the coronavirus pandemic), the company had to get creative—just like kids (and, ahem, adults) who play with LEGO every day.

The virtual convention will have exhibits, presentations, games, and vendors in a suite of Zoom rooms. Some of the presentations include how to build little LEGO critters, spaceships, and a D.C. landmark, plus Elvendale live interactive building. You can even take part in an interactive escape room and an interactive robot Connect Four game.

Viewers watch the contestants of the FOX TV show “LEGO Masters” compete in a challenge and view displays like the Great Ball Contraption, LEGO Fireworks, and a huge LEGO train layout. Also, there will be a live character sketching fueled by fan input by Bricks in the Middle’s Kevin Hinkle if you want to engage with your artistic side.

If you really want to learn more about LEGO, there will be a live Q-and-A session with LEGO community manager Jan Breyer and LEGO product developers. This is an event for anyone interested in taking part in a hardcore LEGO experience.

Tickets for the event are $9, and Brickworld is only offering 2,000 tickets. Plus, $1 from each ticket will be donated to the Make-A-Wish foundation.

In addition, Brickworld is offering a three-show pass. This includes passage into the Brickworld LEGO Halloween Virtual Con on Halloween (which is a Saturday this year) and the Brickworld LEGO Holiday Virtual Con on Saturday, Dec. 12. The pass costs $22 and both events run for the same time as the Fireworks Virtual Con.

Brickworld started in 2007 as an event to bring people together to create and learn from one another, via its website. The company describes its events as for the fans and for the “spirit of giving,” auctioning items to charity on a yearly basis. Brickworld has held several virtual events already, including a virtual event in mid-May.

In need of more of a LEGO fix? Brickworld has several videos on its website and YouTube channel to encourage building. There, you can learn how to build objects like a Truss Bridge and a round tower. Its first video about design techniques was released on May 31, instructing fans how to build a round tower. For other LEGO videos, you can check out YouTube for an online series and updates on new potential play sets.
