17 Broadway Shows for Kids That are Reopening Soon

Broadway shows are finally reopening this fall for the first time since they closed in March of 2020! Crowd favorites like Hamilton, Wicked, and The Lion King are returning as soon as Sept. 14 at the Richard Rodgers Theatre, the Gershwin Theatre, and the Minskoff Theatre. Tickets are currently being sold at 100-percent capacity and are working to safely welcome audiences and employees.

Here are the family-friendly Broadway shows that are reopening beginning this fall.

Musicals Appropriate for Younger Kids

Aladdin

New Amsterdam Theatre, 214 W. 42nd St.
Returning: Sept. 28
Recommended ages: All
The on-stage adaptation of the Disney favorite is a crowd favorite for all ages.

The Music Man

Winter Garden Theatre, 1634 Broadway
Returning: Feb. 10, 2022
Recommended ages: All
Starring Hugh Jackman and Sutton Foster, the show follows a traveling salesman (Jackman) as he cons people into buying instruments and uniforms for a boys’ band that he vows to organize—even though he knows nothing about music!

Gazillion Bubble Show

New World Stages, 340 W. 50th St.
Returning: Oct. 9
Recommended ages: All
This international hit is the first and only interactive show of its kind—and it's fun for the whole family! Kids will be wowed by mind-blowing bubble magic, spectacular lasers, lighting effects, and bubble artistry like you've never seen before.

The Lion King

Returning: Sept. 14
Recommended ages: 6 and older
The on-stage adaptation of the Disney movie follows Simba, an adventurous lion cub who is next in line to be king of the Pride Lands in the African savanna.

Six

Combining history, heartbreak, and pop music, Six sees Henry VIII’s wives take to the mics to share their story.

Dear Evan Hansen

Returning: Dec. 11
Recommended ages: 12 and older
The musical follows Evan Hansen, a schoolboy whose life changes forever after he writes a secret letter. The show features themes of suicide and bullying and may be best suited for ages 12 and older. Children younger than 4 are not permitted.
