‘Harry Potter and the Cursed Child’ Is Coming to Broadway in 2018

Potterheads, rejoice: Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is coming to Broadway in New York!

The play—based on a story by Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling, Jack Thorne, and John Tiffany—is currently only in production in London. It will make its Broadway debut on April 22, 2018 at Lyric Theatre in Times Square, according to Broadway.com.

Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is the eighth book in Rowling’s Harry Potter series. Its play adaptation premiered at Palace Theatre in London on July 30, 2016. The book was released on the same day, and some bookstores in the New York area celebrated with book release parties

The play Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is presented in two parts and it is recommended to watch both on the same day during matinee and evening performances, or on two consecutive evenings. It shattered the record for most wins at the 2017 Olivier Awards—the Society of London Theatre’s annual awards to recognize professional theater—bringing home nine awards, including Best New Play.

Performance dates, casting, and ticket details will be announced at a later time. Lyric Theatre is currently undergoing renovations in anticipation for this show. “I’m delighted we are one step closer in bringing Harry Potter and the Cursed Child to Broadway and very excited by the proposed plans,” J.K. Rowling said in a statement.
