The GIANT Room Reopens with New Installation

The GIANT Room's newest exhibit, Futurescaping, invites kids and their families to reflect on the various social, environmental, and racial injustices in our world today.

The GIANT Room, a kids' STEAM and innovation hub in Chelsea, reopened this month for private morning and afternoon sessions, pandemic pods, gallery visits, free activities, and more. Throughout August, the GIANT Room will be open Tuesdays and Wednesdays as a gallery and shop from 10am-4pm and Thursdays-Saturdays for private morning or afternoon sessions.

To keep you and your family safe, the GIANT Room has implemented mandatory touch-less temperature checks, hand washing upon arrival, deep cleaning in between each session, increased ventilation, and privacy via reservation. Adults must wear masks while in the GIANT Room.

Private morning or afternoon sessions can be reserved for your pandemic pods or micro schools (a maximum of six kids and two adults per appointment) from 10am-12pm for morning sessions or 2pm-4pm for afternoon sessions. Your group will have the whole GIANT Room to itself to make ideas come to life with unlimited access to all tools, toys, and materials like the laser cutter, 3D printer, embroidery machine, button maker, or sticker machine. Structured activities or workshops will be offered based on your group's interests. Also, adults can bring their own laptops to work while the kids are playing and creating.

The GIANT Room's newest exhibit, Futurescaping, invites kids and their families to reflect on the various social, environmental, and racial injustices in our world today and ask themselves "what else is possible? and "what is the future I'd like to see?" Kids are encouraged to use art, technology, and fashion to imagine, create, and work towards a better world, however that may look to them. Futurescaping features Kookerville, a utopian world made from recycled materials by Lexy Ho-Tai, a multi-disciplinary artist. The children of Kookerville, called Kookers, are brightly colored creatures made from recycled materials and created with detachable parts like masks and instruments to encourage kids to participate in the exhibit. The alternative world created by Ho-Tai aims to be an opportunity for visitors to re-evaluate the world they live in and imagine new possibilities, no matter how "kooky" or unexpected they may be.

The Giant Room is a space for families to develop their STEAM knowledge and practice soft skills like creative confidence, problem-solving, communication, and collaboration.
