Children's Clothing Resale Store Opening in Greenpoint

Children's Clothing Resale Store Opening in Greenpoint

The store aims to help the environment by increasing the lifespan of children's clothing and thus reducing waste.

Parachute Brooklyn announces its grand opening in Greenpoint on May 18. The store offers lightly used and vintage clothing for children ages newborn to 10 years.

Adhering to a circular economy, Parachute Brooklyn will operate as a buy/sell/trade model. Parents have the opportunity to cash in on their children’s lightly worn, outgrown clothing or trade it for something else. Sellers are given the option to receive 25 percent of the retail value in cash or 50 percent in trade.

The store offers a variety of commercial and designer brands, a rare vintage collection ranging from the 1950s-1990s, and a selection of new accessories— all at an array of price points.

As a service to its customers, Parachute Brooklyn will also act as a donation drop-off site. This includes stained or damaged pieces. Items that are not purchased for resale in-store will be donated to a variety of charities and recycling facilities.

Co-founders Carly Boonparn and Ambra Markos met through the friendship that kindled between their 3-year-old daughters at school. Their partnership spawned after discovering their common interests in sustainability and fashion. Boonparn has worked as a manager at the local buy-sell-trade clothing chain, Beacon’s Closet, for the past 15 years. Markos holds a degree in Fashion Design from FIT and has worked as a production manager for brands such as Rag & Bone and Madewell. Both women have lived in Greenpoint, Brooklyn for over a decade.

“As local residents we are honored to provide a sustainable business to families in our community,” says Boonparn. “Through the resale cycle we aim to extend the lifespan of clothing thus minimizing the impact on the environment.”

The store is located at 151 Norman Ave. in Greenpoint, Brooklyn and will open for business on May 18. Store hours are 10am-7pm, 7 days a week. Additionally, items will be available for purchase online.

Opening reception will be held on Friday, May 17 from 4-7pm. More details for the opening event will be found on their site. More information can be found at parachutebrooklyn.com For updates follow on the store on Instagram at @parachutebrooklyn, or email [email protected].
