Fall Book Swap - Children's Museum of the East End

The days are getting shorter. The temperature’s going lower. It’s the perfect time of year to dive into a book you’ve picked up during the annual Fall Book Swap! The premise is simple: Bring a book, take a book (or two!). During this free community event, kids will create their own bookmarks, enjoy warm apple cider, and discover new, interesting titles to take home and add to their collections.

Long Island Spartan Kids Race - Old Bethpage Village Restoration

Spartan Kids is on a mission to inspire children to develop a love for fitness at an early age. They provide safe, age appropriate, world class obstacle racing at various distances and difficulties for children age 4-14 to build the participants self-confidence while enjoying a thrilling outdoor activity in your community that offers lifelong progression. Participate for recreation or world class competition: Spartan Kids is a half mile (suggested age 4-6), one mile (suggested age 7-9), and two mile (required age 10-14) course with competitive racing available for two mile racers in age groups 10-11 and 12-14. Top three racers in each competitive two mile age group and gender receive a podium award ceremony with our adult Elite and Age Group winners along with free entry into the 2019 Spartan Kids World Championships later this year. Children of all abilities are welcome to climb, crawl, run, get muddy, and become a Spartan with family and friends. Join a community of people who never give up- AROO!

Rethinking Thanksgiving with Perry Ground - Indian Island County Park

Join Perry Ground for an engaging and informative workshop and storytelling session about the history of this very misunderstood holiday. Based on the only primary source documents that chronicle the “First Thanksgiving” and using a quiz-style format, visitors will learn accurate and culturally appropriate information about the English settlers at Plymouth and the Wampanoag, the Native people who inhabited that area, and learn about how this story became the holiday we know today.

Did you know that wild turkeys use their beautiful feathers to keep warm, blend into the woodlands and to attract hens? The average turkey has up to 6,000 iridescent red, bronze, gold and green feathers covering their body. Drop in between 2 and 4 pm to learn all about this amazing animal and make a colorful turkey feather suncatcher to take home.

NATIVE AMERICAN FEAST WEEKEND - Garvies Point Museum

Join Garvies Point Museum for hands-on history and learning! Activities are on-going, indoors and outdoors, rain or shine. Activities include tools and artifacts, experience natural clay with pottery-making, face-painting with natural pigments from rock, native food & medicinal plant displays, native food sampling, spear-throwing, open-fire cooking with food sampling, and more. There will be an assortment of food to sample but it is recommended to bring a bag lunch and spend the day!

It’s no surprise that the kids in Stranger Things spend a lot of time in the Arcade in Hawkins. It’s even where they meet one of their new best friends, Max; she might be the best video game player the town has ever seen! In this camp, attendees will be told that Hawkins is putting in a new arcade, and they will get to be the ones to design the games to fill it. First they need to learn how: students will put a “Stranger” twist on the games, design their sprites after characters and creatures from the show, and do so through in-world inspired storylines. In the end, they will have a game based on the show that possibly even Mad Max can’t beat. RSVP online.
