The National Museum of Mathematics Third Annual NYC Math Festival Will Feature Juggling Bagels

The National Museum of Mathematics will be hosting the third annual New York City Math Festival on August 18, featuring the largest-ever bagel juggling demonstration.

"Let Them Eat Math!," a gravity-defying juggling display of flying New York City bagels will be featured at the third annual New York City Math Festival, New York's only math festival, in Lower Manhattan. The free event, hosted by the National Museum of Mathematics (MoMath), is open to the public and features exhibitions, constructions, and performances.

"Let Them Eat Math" demonstrates the mathematical insight to juggling success: a juggler's ability to anticipate the path of a flying bagel (mathematically known as a torus) in space and time. Visitors will be able to join the greatest award-winning jugglers in New York to participate in an innovative demonstration, highlighting the mathematical patterns of juggling.

"MoMath believes that math is entertaining and fun," says Cindy Lawrence, executive director of MoMath. "To make math even more digestible to a broader public, what could be more fun than a juggling demonstration of flying bagels? We love the idea of combining patterns and geometry with New York's quintessential food, the bagel."

Come enjoy the Third Annual New York City Math Festival on Saturday, August 18 from 10am to 4pm. Bagel juggling will begin at 2:30pm. The free event will take place at 28 Liberty Plaza, also known as Fosun Plaza.

MoMath, the only math museum in North America, strives to enhance public understanding as well as perception of mathematics in daily life.
