Queens Botanical Garden
This beautiful botanical garden can often be overlooked, especially when it has NYBG and Brooklyn Botanical Garden to compete with. But, with free admission Nov-March, a slew of tropical plants, and a rotating calendar of activities for kids, the Queens Botanical Garden is one of New York City’s hidden treasures. It also runs an entire program dedicated to teaching kids how to garden. Kids ages 2-14 can take part in many of the garden’s fun and educational activities through out the year. The garden also offers cooking and crafts classes for the whole family. Queens Botanical Garden is located at 43-50 Main Street. For more info visit queensbotanical.org.
Flushing Meadows Corona Park
Flushing Meadows Corona Park really deserves an entire post all to itself. With eight playgrounds, a carousel, Fantasy Forest Amusement Park, and the New York Hall of Science (just to name a few), families can easily spend an entire week exploring everything this park has to offer. During the summer months families can cool off in the pool. The Queens Zoo is also located within the park and is open year-round. Little ones will get a kick out of the petting zoo adjacent to the main zoo’s entrance. In the Spring be sure to check out the Sakura Matsuri Cherry Blossom Festival. You can also take in the sights at the 1964 World’s Fair Unisphere, an iconic NYC attraction.
