New-York Historical Society to Host Free for Kids July Fourth Event

The museum is set to welcome visitors on July 4 to celebrate America's founding and Roosevelt's four freedoms.

To celebrate America's 242nd birthday and the freedoms its citizens are afforded, the New-York Historical Society will host special programs and family-friendly activities throughout the day on July 4. Spend your Indepdence day learning about the history of our country and Roosevelt's four freedoms.

The main highlight is an exhibit entitled Rockwell, Roosevelt & the Four Freedoms, a special installation featuring Norman Rockwell’s seminal art works that captured President Franklin Delano Roosevelt’s four freedoms message during World War II more than 75 years ago. The exhibit is part of a seven city tour organized by the Norman Rockwell Museum in Stockbridge, MA that will culminate in 2020 after traveling to five additional U.S. venues, as well as Normandy, France.

The day will also be centered around live readings of the Declaration of Independence by President 'Franklin Delano Roosevelt', portrayed by a living Historian. These special readings will take place at 1pm, 2pm, and 3pm, and are included in the price of admission.

Guests will also have the opportunity to interact with other living historians portraying figures from the WWII era, as well as touch and interact with ration books, tokens, and recipe books. Each child will take home a copy of war cake recipes (made with smaltz—chicken or goose fat—a traditional Central European ingredient) to try and bake themselves.

Admission to New-York Historical is free for children 17 and under on July 4th. Picnic fare will be available for purchase on the Museum’s second floor.
