United Nations International School in Queens Offers Broadway Workshop

Middle grade students can learn their favorite Broadway musical numbers!

United Nations International School Queens, located in Jamaica Estates, began offering a Broadway workshop series for students in fifth through eighth grades in September. The Queens coed, college prep day school offers the International Baccalaureate curriculum.

The United Nations International School, located in Jamaica Estates, launched a Broadway Classroom workshop for students in September. In the class, students learn songs and dance numbers from past and present Broadway shows.

The first run of the 16-week class ended on Jan. 23. It culminated in an assembly in which students in seventh and eighth grades were able to showcase what they’ve been learning. The next scheduled Broadway workshop will be for students in fifth and sixth grades.

“The class was created by the school’s English teacher who annually takes classes to a Broadway show and workshop conducted by working theater professionals and, through that association, was able to get Broadway Classroom to come to UNIS for our weekly classes,” says Rebecca Sorrentini, admissions officer.

United Nations International School is coeducational, college-preparatory day school that serves students in pre-K to 12th grade at its campuses in Queens and Manhattan. The Queens campus houses students in kindergarten through eighth grade, while the Manhattan campus serves children in pre-K to 12th grades. It was established in 1947 to provide an international education with the International Baccalaureate (IB) curriculum, and to preserve the diverse cultural backgrounds of the students whose parents were part of the United Nations.
